Middle-Senior DevOps Engineer

The Middle-Senior DevOps Engineer builds and operates the infrastructure, delivery pipelines and observability tooling behind Birmarket's technology platforms. Birmarket is one of the leading e-commerce marketplaces in Azerbaijan and a business vertical of the PASHA / Bir Ecosystem.

This is a hands-on engineering position reporting to the DevOps & SRE Team Lead. The engineer works day to day with development teams to keep the marketplace available and releases safe, and contributes to the team's platform programme: database upgrades, search and logging migration, pipeline hardening, edge security and cloud cost optimisation. We hire at Middle or Senior level depending on experience; the expectations for each level are set out below.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE or Platform Engineering for Middle-level candidates; 5+ years for Senior-level candidates.
• Hands-on experience operating production environments, preferably in e-commerce, marketplace, fintech or other high-availability digital businesses.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including AKS, virtual machines, networking and managed services.
• Confident Linux administration and practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible or equivalent configuration management solutions.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or equivalent platforms, with knowledge of deployment strategies such as blue-green and canary.
• Practical experience with monitoring, logging and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Operational knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis and messaging platforms such as Kafka or Azure Service Bus.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, TLS, load balancing, API gateways and WAF.
• Knowledge of infrastructure security practices, including secrets management, access management, RBAC and vulnerability scanning.
• Bash scripting and experience with at least one programming language, such as Python or Go.
• Ability to independently deliver assigned tasks, troubleshoot technical issues and participate in incident management.
• For Senior-level candidates: experience owning complex technical initiatives, leading incident response, making architectural decisions and mentoring other engineers.
• Azerbaijani and Russian – high proficiency, both spoken and written.
• English – good working proficiency.

• Operate, maintain and continuously improve Birmarket's Azure cloud infrastructure, including AKS, virtual machines, networking, storage and managed services.
• Manage Kubernetes environments, including cluster upgrades, autoscaling, resource optimization, Helm charts and workload troubleshooting.
• Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code and configuration management using Terraform/Bicep and Ansible.
• Maintain Linux-based infrastructure, ensuring system updates, security hardening and operational stability.
• Build, maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines and shared templates in Azure DevOps, supporting development teams with service onboarding and release automation.
• Implement secure and reliable deployment practices, including approval gates, blue-green deployments, secrets management and vulnerability scanning.
• Maintain monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting solutions using Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, ensuring service observability.
• Support the operation, maintenance and upgrades of databases and data services, including PostgreSQL, Redis and messaging platforms.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident management, root cause analysis and disaster recovery activities.
• Ensure infrastructure scalability, availability and performance through capacity planning, load testing, backup management and readiness for peak business periods.
• Maintain infrastructure security and compliance in collaboration with Information Security and the ecosystem's DevOps & SRE Excellence Area.
• Optimize cloud resource utilization and costs, maintain resource tagging standards and ensure operational documentation is up to date.
